Staxxon designs foldable multimodal containers, a solution aimed at addressing the 'empty run' issue, where empty containers congest ports and disrupt the supply chain.
George Kochanowski serves as the CEO of Staxxon, a company that has made a groundbreaking step by designing foldable shipping containers similar to accordions, which can be stacked on ships or at ports to reduce congestion, delays, and carbon emissions.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and pursued postgraduate business studies at Northwestern University (USA). He has invented fully plastic, reflective traffic signs and received the Plastic Product of the Year award in 1998. As the Process Control Manager at GE Plastics, George Kochanowski also received leadership awards for state-of-the-art computer control systems and networks at GE's Alabama facility.
George Kochanowski has held high-level leadership positions in both state-owned and private companies, from electronics to advanced synthetic materials.
"We design foldable multimodal containers that exceed ISO and CSC standards, while also having the necessary systems to safely and quickly stack them vertically one by one. We are in the process of building a network of manufacturers in Europe and North America to produce our assembly parts," George Kochanowski stated.
What causes the 'empty run' issue? Empty containers congest roads and port terminals, causing port congestion and leaving little space to unload cargo from ships. This, in turn, forces many ships to wait offshore, wasting resources and slowing down the supply chain. The problem only disappears when the ships sail away.
Unfortunately, due to the global imbalance of imports and exports, the 'empty run' issue arises when 'empty cargo' is delivered to the terminals, leading to port congestion. This has a domino effect because these empties need to be temporarily stored on their chassis at off-terminal storage facilities, reducing the chassis' availability. (Chassis is a trailer or truck frame used for transporting containers on land). This 'congestion' then leaves exporters with empty stomachs, as these cargoes arrive at the wrong place and time.
